COURSE STRUCTURE

ETHOS OF COURSE

Bringing osteopaths a wealth of integrated knowledge and experience in paediatric osteopathy.

Course features:​

  • Recognise clinical presentations of concern/red flags and learn how to manage them. 

  • Practice the therapeutic handling of babies and children.

  • Learn key aspects of communication and management of paediatric patients and family.

  • Build knowledge base to develop an osteopathic approach to babies and children to be an integral part of the health system.

  • Develop and critically reflect on clinical practice.

  • Gain confidence in the practice of Osteopathy by working in a warm and friendly environment.

ACADEMIC TRAINING

The awarding body is The London Clinic for Paediatric Osteopathy.

Entry requirement - UK Applicants must be registered as practising Osteopaths with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).

EU and overseas applicants must, where applicable, be registered as practising osteopaths with the relevant regulatory authority or association and must, irrespective of the former, hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance.

All applicants are required to provide Enhanced Disclosure with lists from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Further details are on the application or click here.

All applicants will be asked to attend an entry preliminary week end course in order to be introduced to key osteopathic concepts for the course 

ASSESSMENT

Assessment and feedback includes both formative and summative: 

  • 1 practice audit 

  • 2 written case reports 

  • 1 final clinical case critical analysis 

COURSE STRUCTURE & CONTENT

Includes both regular theory and clinical practice sessions.

Modules

1

How does embryological development define and inform functional tissue pattern(s)?

  • Development and differentiation of tissues/formation of systems.

  • The biodynamic approach.

How to use cranial and functional approaches to diagnose and treat paediatric cases 

  • Cranial and functional concepts.

  • Application of techniques

How to assess children, expressions and behaviour

  • Recognise early clinical signs of abnormal development.

  • Application Scopes of osteopathic treatment with behavioural conditions.

How does dis-ease manifest in children?

  • Build ‘library’ of clinical palpatory expressions. 

  • Detect changes to inform diagnosis.

GENETIC PREDISPOSITION and GENERAL HEALTH 

  • Discuss genetic predispositions. 

  • Overview of congenital issues.

  • Assess tissue expression(s) within the total health system.

UNDERSTANDING CHILD DEVELOPMENT

  • Discuss neurophysiological basis of cognitive development. 

  • Strategies and clinical application to facilitate development.

DURATION & MODE OF STUDY

A mandatory preliminary weekend course will take place on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th January 2020. This will provide applicants with a pre-course study package, including cranial and functional concepts applied to paediatric osteopathy.

The start date for the course will be 21st January 2020.

The duration of the course will be 11 months (until November 2020 included). 

The course is run part time, one day per week, every Tuesday at the Rosebery Practice in London (see address at the bottom of the page).

Week 1

Lecture: 14:00-16:00

Clinical Practice: 16:30-18:30

Week 2

Clinical Practice: 14:00-18:00

Week 3

Lecture: 14:00-16:00

Clinical Practice: 16:30-18:30

Week 4

Clinical Practice: 14:00-18:00

COST

The tuition fee for the course is £2,100.

Concessions will be made for the following: 10% off if tuition fees are paid in full and 10% off for new Osteopathy graduates (2019).

Flexible payment options are available on monthly standing order payments of £175/ month (over 12 months) or £157.50/month for new graduates (over 12 months).

Students should be aware that there may be additional costs to consider such as equipment, textbooks, etc.
